NEWPORT and DEXTER – Victor L. McAllister, 89, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at his Newport home after a short period of ill health. He was born April 10, 1920, in Solon, the son of Owen K. and Inez (Moody) McAllister. He was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy. Victor was a proud Navy veteran of World War II, serving from December 1943 to January 1946. After his discharge from the Navy he went back to work at Fay Scott, Dexter, as a machinist, retiring after 42 years service. He was married to Lucille (Simms) McAllister, who died in 1985, after 42 years of marriage. Victor was a past master and held the office of secretary for 35 years at Penobscot Masonic Lodge No. 39, Dexter; he was also a life member of Piscataquis Royal Arch Chapter No. 21, Dover-Foxcroft and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Wassookeag Chapter No. 44, Dexter. He was also a member of Pouliot-Seavey Post No. 53 American Legion, Dexter. He enjoyed big band music, creating latch hook rugs, cross word puzzles and cryptograms. He is survived by his wife of seven years, Ann (Hatfield) Zyra McAllister of Newport; one daughter, Sandra White and her companion, Milton Emerson, of Corinna; one brother, Howard McAllister of Oakland; a grandson and his wife, Donald and Katherine White of Sangerville; and two great-granddaughters, Jasmine and Amaya White.
