MAPLETON – Galen A. Morrison, 72, passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 29, 1937, in Presque Isle, the son of Walter A. and Theresa (Garrity) Morrison. Galen served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1962. He owned and operated a family grocery store for many years in Mapleton. He also worked as a delivery driver at Coles Express Co. and Acadia Medical Supply, and was the caretaker of Mapleton Cemetery Association. Galen was fire chief of Mapleton Fire Department for many years, a member of Anah Temple Shrine and Washburn Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Victoria (Crabbe) Morrison of Mapleton; a son, Dale Morrison and his wife, Michele, of Presque Isle; a daughter, Mitzi Rogers and her husband, Sam, of Bangor; three grandchildren, Tim, Andrew and Melissa Morrison; a foster daughter, Tanya Harris of Calais; a stepson, Brian Crabbe of Halifax, Nova Scotia; a special niece and nephew, Wayne and Lisa Morrison; special family friends, Jerry and Barb Cawley, Jeff Robertson, and Gordon and Louise Weeks; and “Uncle” Jimmy Vardimis. He was predeceased by a brother, Dale Morrison. Committal prayers with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton. A celebration of Galen’s life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at West Chapman Advent Christian Church with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating.
