PORTLAND, Maine — A group of Maine business leaders is interested in setting up a casino in Oxford County.

The Portland Press Herald reports Stephen Barber, retired president of Barber Foods in Portland, and Matt Hancock, of Casco, have registered the Black Bear Entertainment political action committee with the Secretary of State’s Office to support a casino.

Hancock said the group hasn’t decided whether to pursue legislation to legalize the casino, although it’s spent $25,000 in discussions with lawyers to craft a proposal.

Hancock said the group is considering the casino idea as a way to boost the area’s economy.

Voters in 2008 turned down legislation that would have legalized a casino in the county.
