CHERRYFIELD – Boyd A. Brooks Sr., 81, passed away Sept. 11, 2009, at a Milbridge health care facility after a long illness. Boyd was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Cherryfield, son of Dorothy (Brooks) Farnsworth. He grew up in Cherryfield with five special sisters and six special brothers under the loving care of his grandparents, James “Raleigh” and Florice Brooks. Boyd was a hard working woodsman and marine worm digger. He will be remembered as an avid sportsman. He enjoyed fishing from the banks of the Narraguagus and hunting and trapping the barrens of Down East. Boyd was a quiet man but always ready and willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was predeceased by his grandparents; his mother and her husband, Wallace; wife, Mary; son, Mikey; three “sisters,” Mildred, Jessie and Bertha; five “brothers,” Earl, Ray, Jim, Ken and Alvah; and two grandchildren. He is survived by five children, Randy Brooks of Harrington, Ruthy Brooks of Cherryfield, Danny Brooks and wife, Robin, of Deblois, Boyd Brooks Jr. and wife, Theresa, of Arizona and Penny Wakefield and husband, Russell, of Cherryfield; “sisters,” Esther Bartman of Brooksville, Fla., and Janice MacLean of Cherryfield; “brother,” Phil Brooks of Lewiston; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family thanks the staff at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility for their dedicated care and compassion throughout the last several years. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
