FORT FAIRFIELD – Lillian H. Huffman, Ed.D., 75, achieved her final victory Sept. 16, 2009, at a health care facility in Houlton, after a number of years of regression due to a dementia of the Alzheimer’s variety. She was born Jan. 19, 1934, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Albert D. and Lillian I. (Campbell) Farrell. A wonderful wife, mother, friend and an educator who taught pre-K through grade eight in public and Christian schools, teacher education at the college and university level, and special education seminars/courses for employed teachers, as well as an elementary school administrator. She was selected as an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in 1974 in recognition of her contributions to the advancement of elementary education and service to community, and in 1978 she earned a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Sarasota. She was an evangelical Christian who taught Sunday school for many years, a student member of the Taylor University chorale group ministering in various churches, a member of various church choirs, a church librarian, and in the years preceding her disablement, she fellowshipped at Bethany Baptist Church, Presque Isle. She is survived by her husband, Durwood R. Huffman of Fort Fairfield; a son, Donald D. Huffman and his wife, Jennifer, of Fort Fairfield; a daughter, Heatherlyn Faulkner and her husband, Daniel, of Shelbyville, Ind.; and a brother, John C. Farrell and his wife, Marilyn, of Warwick, R.I. She has three grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Stubbs. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Relatives and friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
