“The goal of the Race for Myeloma is to raise awareness of and funds for multiple myeloma research, an incurable blood cancer,” the women wrote.
“Multiple myeloma is the second most common blood cancer and one of the top 10 leading causes of cancer death.”
Information and registration forms are available by calling Reeve at 356-0425.
Donations and pledges will be collected the day of the event or can be mailed in advance.
The registration fee is $15 for anyone over 5 for this event sponsored by Courtyard Marriott and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Walkers and runners are encouraged to collect 10 pledges of $10 each for the foundation, and prizes and a raffle are included.
“Each year,” the women wrote, “approximately 20 families” in Greater Bangor learn “their loved one has this incurable disease.”
Reeve, Bartlett and Knappe are part of the effort “to raise funds for research and to provide support for these families and their loved ones.”

Community members, co-workers, friends and family “have been very helpful and supportive” of Donald Morrison and his family, following his recent diagnosis of Wegener’s disease, wrote Cindy Johnson.
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Web site, “Wegener’s Granulomatosis is an uncommon disease, in which the blood vessels are inflamed, aka vasculitis. This inflammation damages important organs of the body by limiting blood flow to those organs and destroying normal tissue.”
To help the family with the unexpected medical expenses it now faces, Johnson explained, a benefit spaghetti supper for Donnie Morrison and family is 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Twin City Baptist Church on North Main Street in Brewer.
The requested donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
“Please come out to the supper,” Johnson wrote.
“It would certainly help lift the spirits of the Morrison family during this difficult time.”
