ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine has implemented its first-ever Black Bear Ticket Scholarship Program for the 2009-2010 men’s hockey season, the athletic department announced Friday.
To help ease financial strains for Black Bear fans, UMaine is giving them the opportunity to nominate themselves or someone they think is deserving of season tickets.
Fans should submit an essay, in 500 words or less, about why a person or family deserves to win tickets. The nomination should demonstrate the nominee’s Black Bear pride.
“We have amazing fans that in some cases, due to circumstances out of their control, may not have the means to attend our games on a regular basis,” athletic director Blake James said in the release. “We created this program as a way for our department to give back to the community that supports us so much all year long.”
Nominations are due before 5 p.m. on Oct. 9. Winners will be chosen by a committee in the UMaine Athletics Department and notified the week prior to the Oct. 16 home opener against Michigan State.
Winners will could receive anything from single-game tickets to season tickets and some may be awarded parking passes.
The nominations may be e-mailed to: Katherine.stoess@umit.maine.edu or sent by regular mail to Kate Stoess, University of Maine, 5747 Memorial Gym, Orono, ME 04469-5747.
