BREWER – Leroy E. Gordon, 71, went to live his eternal life with his Lord Sept. 21, 2009, with his family by his side at a Bangor health care facility. He was born June 15, 1938, in Lincoln, son of Lee and Vearle (Perkins) Gordon. Roy attended Lincoln schools. His life was an extraordinary testament of the power of love, selflessness, acceptance, stamina and defeating many obstacles along his journey. Roy enjoyed his coin collection, his tomato plants, NASCAR, drawing and most of all his beautiful family. Roy’s favorite pastime was smoking his pipe and listening to the radio. He was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher at Hyde Park Community Church, New York, for many years. After leaving the Air Force, he worked for New York state until his retirement, then returned home to Maine. Roy will be deeply missed by his beautiful bride of more than 52 years, Judy (Schaffer) Gordon; and his son, Lee K. Gordon, both of Brewer; two daughters, Philomena Gordon of Canaan and Nancy and her husband, Dana Laughlin, of Carmel; grandchildren, Lee-Anne and Naleea Laughlin of Carmel, Leroy Dunn of Bangor, Peter Urquhart and his wife, Emily Brooks, of Clifton and Heather Hart of Brewer; great-grandchildren, Dalton and Elizabeth Urquhart of Clifton; his sister, Anna and her husband, Bernard Smith, of Lakeville; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Judy-Anne (Gordon) Hart; and his brother, Kenneth Gordon. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, with the Rev. Dr. George Curtis III, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Brewer, officiating. Interment with military honors will be immediately after the service at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
