CORINTH – The Rev. Dr. Theodore N. Smith, 83, beloved husband of Doris (Bishop) Smith, died Sept. 26, 2009, at his residence. He was born May 19, 1926, in Exeter, son of Theodore P. and Edna (Seavey) Smith. After high school, Ted was a graduate of Providence Bible Institute, Taylor University, Gordon Divinity Theological Seminary, the New York Theological Seminary and received his doctorate from Eastern Baptist Seminary. His ministry started with Home Mission Field, Meductic, New Brunswick, for five years. Then he served the American Baptist Churches in Maine, starting with Holmes Bay Pastorate in the Machias area for six years. He then became pastor of Kittery Point Baptist Church for 11 years and Belfast First Baptist Church for eight years. In 1982 he accepted the position of associate pastor at Columbia Street Baptist Church, Bangor, retiring Jan. 1, 1993. Prior to his retirement, he also served as civilian chaplain of the 776 Radar Squadron, Northeast Air Defense Sector, U.S. Air Force. Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 59 years, are four children, Theodore “Ted” Smith and his wife, Wanda, of South Berwick, Laura “Laurie” Pritchard and her husband, James, of Kittery, Daniel Smith and his wife, Susan, of Northport and Alice Morris and her husband, Jerry Jr., of Corinth; his grandchildren, Heather, Jason, Nathan, Danielle, Jen, Rebecca, Christopher, Andrew, Hollie, Jimmy, Alaina, Mallie and Mariah; great-grandchildren, Angelica, Jacquelyn and Zach; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ted was predeceased by a son, Jonathan Neal Smith; a brother, Carroll; an infant brother, Philip; and his sister, Jean Harrington. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Columbia Street Baptist Church, Bangor, with the Rev. Peter Sprague and the Rev. Dr. Foster Williams officiating. Burial and interment services will be held 4 p.m. at First Baptist Cemetery, Kittery Point, with the Rev. Cynthia Nickerson officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to join them at Kitttery Point Baptist Church, 636 Haley Road, after the service for a time of refreshment and fellowship.
