ORONO and DUNSMUIR, Calif. – Rebekah Lynn Filipello passed away Sept. 11, 2009, in Redding, Calif., after a brief battle with cancer. Born Aug. 26, 1952, Beki was the adopted daughter of Betty and the late Edward Carr of Orono. After growing up in Orono, Beki moved to California, living first near San Francisco and finally in Dunsmuir, near Mount Shasta. She was employed as a graphic art designer for Wells Fargo Bank. In Dunsmuir, Calif., she was a member of River Exchange, Garden Club, Siskiyou Food Co-op and Chamber of Commerce to help make her town a thriving, beautiful and nourishing place to live. She loved writing, hiking, canoeing, playing the harp and flute, and gardening. She was especially involved with sustainability and the integrated gardening techniques of permaculture. Beki is survived by her husband, David Filipello of Dunsmuir, Calif.; daughters, Mallory Hill of Portland, Ore., and Jesica Keller of San Francisco; stepdaughters, Alexeis Filipello of Oakland, Calif., and Ananda DeStefano of Vancouver, British Columbia; sisters, Karen Bustillo of Castro Valley, Calif., and Elizabeth Carr of Mountain View, Calif.; mother, Betty Carr of Orono; half sisters, Deena, Tamara and Natasha; half brothers, Diego, Eric and Guy; her birth mother, Barbara Brainard; birth father, Bob Lynn; many aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of Beki’s life was held Sept. 19, in Dunsmuir, Calif.
