NEWCOMB HERMON and NEWBURGH – Christine Angie (Leavitt) Newcomb, 95, passed away Sept. 27, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born June 3, 1914, in Newburgh, daughter of the late Mark S. and Audrey A. (McLaughlin) Leavitt. Christine was a longtime resident of Hermon. She and her late husband, Burton, owned Newcomb’s Cottages, Hermon, for many years. They later went on to manage Whitcomb’s Motel, Brewer. Christine was a beautiful and gracious lady in the truest sense of the word. She loved creatures great and small and would often say she, “loved animals more than some people,” especially cats. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed learning new words and doing crossword puzzles. She will be remembered as a great lady who was loved by everyone. She was predeceased by her husband, Burton V.; son, Bruce Newcomb; and two brothers, Arthur and Leon Leavitt. She is survived by her brother, Norris Leavitt; two grandchildren, Eric Newcomb and Heather Newcomb; two great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Linda Newcomb Briggs and Lois Leavitt Libby; and many other nieces and nephews. In keeping with Christine’s wishes, private burial will be beside her husband at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to Bangor Humane Society, 693 B Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
