WYTOPITLOCK – Garfield H. Dow, 87, passed away Oct. 2, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, after a 10-year battle with cancer. He was born May 15, 1922, in Wytopitlock, the son of William Warren Dow and Mildred (Howard) Dow. Garfield was a woods worker, working for Warren Brothers for many years and worked for James River Co. until his retirement. He also worked with the youth, doing the summer program and tending the gym until fall 2008. He was a longtime member and officer of Reed Plantation Fire Department. Garfield loved the youth, most especially his grandchildren and great-grandson, who gave him great joy. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeane; five children, Carrie Hanington and Wilfred of Wytopitlock, William Dow and Kim of Chester, Pamela Hale of Hampden, Robert Dow of Glenburn and Peggy Thompson and Cory of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren, Brittany, Brianna, Dustin, Dalanie, Jacob, Logan, Lexi, Lucas, Kameron and Hazel; and great-grandson, Gauge. He is also survived by a brother, Dale Dow; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Mary Rollins; and firstborn daughter, Carlene. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at Wytopitlock Cemetery, with President Jared Carter officiating. Immediately after the service all are invited to a reception at Reed Plantation Fire Department for refreshments and fellowship.
