President Barack Obama tried but failed to win the 2016 summer Olympics for Chicago. Should he have made the effort? Was he acting parochially in working for his hometown’s interests? Or was national pride also at stake? Is the Olympics worth having? Does it confer good will on a city or country? Does it bring economic benefits?
