STOCKHOLM – Wyllard P. Johnson, 90, died Oct. 6, 2009, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Caribou. He was born July 9, 1919, in Woodland, the son of the late James G. and Elvie Johnson. Wyllard was a lifelong Stockholm resident and was employed for more than 50 years as a heavy equipment operator for International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 4. He was also employed part time on the snow removal team at Loring Air Force Base. Mr. Johnson served with the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate second class during World War II. He received the Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal and American Theatre Medal. He was a charter member of Perkins Plourde Post American Legion for more than 63 years and was also a member of La Societe Des 40 Hommes Et 8 Chevaux. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his wife, Norma (Rackliffe) Johnson in 2004. He is survived by his nine children, James Johnson of Somersworth, N.H., Bonnie Kelly of Aurora, Colo., Brenda Monteith of North Brooklin, Patricia Sheltmire of Raquette Lake, N.Y., Susan Johnson of Stockholm, Betty Jean Gallagher of Caribou, Virginia Chapman of Blue Hill, Brent Johnson of Kennebunk and Jennifer Camp of Westbrook; nine grandchildren, Sherry and Melissa Johnson, Tara Reece, Nathan Kelly, Lisa Monteith, Erica Aberle, Rodney Chapman Jr., Garth Johnson and Dakin Camp; and four great-grandchildren, Madison and Catelyn Reece, and Samuel and Carson Aberle. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced by Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou.
