PRESQUE ISLE – Dale P. Powers, 71, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 14, 2009. Dale was born Aug. 29, 1938, son of the late Thomas William Powers Sr. and Evelyn (Trombley) Powers. Dale is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara; his mother, Evelyn; daughters, Denise Powers Murchison of Canaan and Amy Powers Murphy and her husband, Michael, of Windham; granddaughters, Megan Murchison and Samantha Murphy; sisters, Jeanne Powers of Presque Isle and Polly Powers of Burdett, N.Y.; brother, Tom Powers and his wife, Barbara, of Presque Isle; many special nieces and nephews. Dale was predeceased by his son, Christopher. Dale graduated from Presque Isle High School In 1956, then Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, with a degree in building construction technology. He spent time in California and Washington state before coming home to Presque Isle, where he pursued a career in construction. As owner of Cyr Construction, Dale successfully completed numerous projects including several decades of improvements and expansion of Loring Air Force Base, the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Northern Maine Community College campus, The Aroostook Medical Center, several municipal school system buildings in Aroostook County, many commercial, municipal and industrial buildings, and Aroostook County Detention Facility. Dale’s love of the outdoors was evident through his lifelong passion for hunting and fishing. He traveled extensively to fish waters in Labrador, the Arctic, Alaska and the province of Quebec. He also loved gardening and woodworking, collecting Inuit art and taxidermy, as well as spending special time with his family. Dale was a member of the local chapter of the Atlantic Salmon Federation and a lifelong member of Presque Isle Fish & Game Club. He proudly served as president of Associated General Contractors of Maine. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle. There will be a reception immediately after the Mass at Northeastland Hotel, Main Street.
