MEDWAY – John H. Stanley Sr., 84, husband of Fern (Crosby) Stanley, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Oct. 18, 2009, at Millinocket Regional Hospital. John was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Medway, the son of George and Priscilla (Hopkins) Stanley. John attended Medway High School and spent a short time in the Navy during World War II, and was employed for 35 years at Great Northern Paper Co., retiring in 1987. In younger years he enjoyed hunting and faithfully attended Calvary Temple Assembly of God until health issues prevented him from doing so. There was no one who had a truer or stronger faith than John. He looked forward to his morning visit with his favorite son-in-law, Pete Lyons. In addition to his wife, Fern, he is survived by three children, Bonnie Lyons and Pete of East Millinocket, John Stanley Jr. and Vicki of Mattawamkeag and Bill Stanley of Medway; grandchildren, Karen Majkowski and husband, Mark and their daughters, Alisha and Brianna, Matthew Lyons and wife, Roxann and their daughters, Lacey and Matty, as well as Tiana Stanley of Concord, N.H.; stepgrandchildren, Wendy Briggs, Jodi Vaznis and Jarod Briggs; siblings, Eugene Stanley, Carroll Stanley, Alton “Tash” Stanley, Clara Cox and Norma Kimball; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves many, many friends and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was predeceased by siblings, Beatrice McLaughlin, Earl, Otho, Leon and George “Eddie” Stanley. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 2 Orchard St., East Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Regginal Adams officiating. Interment will be at Grindstone Road Cemetery, Medway. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Calvary Temple Building Fund.
