They also lived in Surry, Winterport, and at the family cottage on Green Lake. They belonged to the Holiday Rambler RV Club and spent many winters in their RV in Ocala, FL and Haines City, FL. They also enjoyed going to Shrine activities and dances. Mom had many ‘careers’ during her life. The most important were being a wife and mother. She worked at the Hampden Telephone Company, White Elephant Restaurant and Dairy Queen in Brewer, the Brewer IGA coffee shop, sold Avon, and worked at Ohmart & Hinckley Pharmacy in Hampden. One of Mom’s proudest accomplishments was getting her high school diploma. She got mad at her father and quit school in her senior year of high school and regretted not getting her diploma for many years. She finally went back to school and got her GED in 1989 and her high school diploma June 13, 1991. It was one of her and her family’s proudest moments as she was also chosen to give the commencement speech at her grad-uation ceremony. She then taught knitting and sewing at Hampden Academy’s Adult Education for many years. Mom belonged to Star in the East # 17 OES in Hampden and was the worthy matron many times. She enjoyed going to Grand Chapter and all of the activities with her many Star friends. She was also the former president of the Sunshine Club for Children and chaired the annual fall craft fair and quilt raffle for many years. She also belonged to the Daughters of the Nile, Winterport Women’s Cub and the Red Hat Society. She was a member of the Hampden Highland’s United Methodist Church and a former member of the Hampden Congregational Church and the Hampden Neighborhood Food Cupboard. Mom enjoyed going to Meals for ME, to Roe Village and especially playing cards and going out to eat with her friends. She was also known for knitting scrubbies, dish clothes, and sweaters that were known throughout the area. Mom’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Ross Manor, Engel Place and Darrah Wagner and the staff and volunteers at Beacon Hospice for providing excellent care and support during this very difficult time. Family and friends are invited to visit 5-7 P.M., Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden where a funeral service will be held 10 A.M., Thursday, October 22, 2009.
