WATERVILLE – Jeanette M. Smith, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Inland Hospital, after a long illness. She was born April 11, 1925, in Waterville, the daughter of Alfred and Rose (LaBrecque) Roderick. Educated in Waterville schools, Jeanette worked at Elmwood Hotel, W.T. Grant and Wyandotte Woolen Mill throughout her working career. She also volunteered at the soup kitchen and as a crossing guard for many years. A member of Corpus Christi Parish, she attended Sacred Heart Church, was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary, as well as Rosary Sodality. Jeanette was predeceased by her husband, Richard Smith; and six siblings, Adrienne Marcoux, Lionel Roderick, Wilfred Roderick, Joseph Roderick, Albert Roderick and Mionne Williams. Surviving are two sons, David Smith and his wife, Doris, of Waterville, and Robert Smith and his wife, Geraldine, of Houlton; a daughter, Candice Smith of Waterville; seven grandchildren, Kristopher Smith of New York, Gretchin and her husband, Jayson Duncan, of California, Kelly and her husband, Peter DeMartini, of New York, Luke Marshall of New Hampshire, Kathleen and her husband, Todd Burbank, of Winslow, Colleen Smith and Edward Smith of Rome; as well as many other extended family members. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Sacred Heart Church, Pleasant Street, Waterville. Burial will be after at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Waterville. Donations in her memory may be sent to St. Francis Soup Kitchen.
