SKOWHEGAN and BANGOR – Grace Mae Lyons, 87, of Bangor, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at a Brewer nursing center. She was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Skowhegan, the daughter of Arthur and Rena (Oaks) Stoodley. Grace was a 1939 graduate of Skowhegan High School. On Nov. 16, 1942, she married Arnold C. Lyons in Skowhegan, where they resided for many years before moving to Bangor. Grace became a homemaker, devoting all her time and energy to raising their three children. She was an outstanding cook, known for her fabulous cream puffs and pies. A woman of courage and strength, she sacrificed for her family and friends. Grace’s zest for life led her to enjoy many outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing, at which she excelled. She was especially proud of her 4 1/2 pound and 4 3/4 pound brook trout caught at Moosehead Lake. For many years Grace and Arnold spent many summers camping at Canada Falls Lake. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Grace is survived by her husband of 67 years, Arnold; her three children and spouses, Theodore and Kathy Lyons of Hollidaysburg, Pa., Nancy and Carl Schubach of Lowville, N.Y., and Bruce and Pauline Lyons of Standish; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Kenneth Stoodley, Lillian McKenney, Ruth Hodgdon, James Stoodley, Robert Stoodley and Faye McLaughlin. No visitation will be held. A service will be held at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330.
