EDDINGTON and STOCKHOLM – Delmar Donald Brissette, beloved husband of Shirley (Bossie) Brissette, died Nov. 3, 2009, at his home after a yearlong battle with lung cancer. He was born Jan. 23, 1931, in North Caribou, to Adelard and Edith (Guerette) Brissette. His family moved to New Sweden in 1944. He attended New Sweden and Stockholm schools. He worked at Loring Air Force Base in 1953 as a boilerman apprentice, then as boiler operator and as heating supervisor from 1972 until retirement in 1986. He was a 59-year member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Stockholm. He served the town of Stockholm as a constable for a few years and as fire chief for 16 years. He was also a member of Catholic Order of Foresters, Court No. 1977. He tended to the Catholic cemeteries in Stockholm for many years. He and his wife moved to Eddington in 2003 to be closer to their children. They have been members of St. Joseph’s Parish, Brewer, for six years. Delmar will always be remembered for his devotion to family and pride in their accomplishments. He was a hard worker who was always offering to help others. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling. His final days were a testament to his strong character, as he bravely talked about the journey ahead. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six sons, Bruce and wife, Diane, of Greenville, Mich., Steve of Colorado Springs, Colo., Brian and wife, Jane, of Presque Isle, Russell of Jackson, Ga., Curtis of Sabattus and Scott and wife, Sue, of Murietta, Calif.; two daughters, Sharon Swanson and husband, Giff, of Frankfort and Brenda Nadeau and husband, Ken, of Brewer; son-in-law, Ron Sites; daughter-in-law, Lisa Brissette; two brothers, Lindy and wife, Florence, of Caribou and Davis of Washington; and five sisters, Millie Serritella and Doris Lagassie of Caribou, Della and husband, Jim, of Santa Barbara, Calif., Delcia and husband, Everett, of Tarrington, Conn., and Nancy and husband, Jerry, of Albuquerque, N.M. He is also survived by his in-laws, James and Doris Bossie of Cross Lake, Roger and Wendy Bossie, Ann and Michael Sandstrom, and Rhonda Bossie, all of Stockholm and Richard and Joanne Bossie of Caribou; 10 grandchildren, Danielle, Jennifer, Christopher, Megan, Angela, Eric, Michael, Justin, Ryan and Evan; eight great-grandchildren; and a special aunt, Jeanette Andrews of North Caribou. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Connie Sites in 1983; a son, Kevin in 2002; grandson, Tracy in 2002; great-granddaughter, Elise in 2009; and brother-in-law, Peter Bossie. His family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who supported him during the past several months, especially New Hope Hospice, and Dr. Sabbagh and Dr. Hand. His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at St. Theresa’s Church, Stockholm, with Father David Raymond officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to New Hope Hospice of Eddington or St. Theresa’s Parish. “With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. Your loving heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. Our broken hearts and sorrow tell God’s taken of His best.”
