INDIAN TOWNSHIP – Steven J. Sabattis, 77, passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at his home with his family by his side. Steven was born in St. Anthony, New Brunswick, son of the late Sylvester and Bessie (Meuse) Sabattis. He graduated from high school in Fort Fairfield and worked as a carpenter. Steven was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Steven was predeceased by a son, George Sabattis; and two sisters, Lillian and Elizabeth. Surviving are his loving wife, Mae (Polches) Sabattis; 12 children, Cheyenne Muwin, Steven Sabattis, Patrick Sabattis, Richard Sabattis and his wife, Myra, Karen Sabattis, Karl Sabattis and his companion, Randy Sabattis, Clint Sabattis, Kevin Peterpaul II, Rhonda Sabattis and her companion, Kevin Peterpaul I, Nipon Peterpaul and Eleanor Muwin, all of Indian Township, and Mary Bailey and her husband, Richard, of Princeton; three brothers, Robert and Harry, both of New Hampshire, and Peter of Oromocto, New Brunswick; a sister, Evelyn of St. Mary, New Brunswick; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Wally Lewey and Nancy Polches. Visiting hours will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, until 1 p.m. Thursday at his home, 466 Peter Dana Point Road, Indian Township. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Ann Mission, Peter Dana Point, by Father James Plourde. Burial will be at Tribal Cemetery.
