HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Host team A+/Fairlanes rallied from a first-string deficit to defeat Crazy Train by 94 pins and claim the World Team Candlepin Bowling Championships Saturday.
A+/Fairlanes totaled 1,940 pins to Crazy Train’s 1856 to win its second title in four years.
Crazy Train of Massachusetts led by 34 pins after the first string, but A+/Fairlanes charged to post a 97-pin victory in the second string and a 21-pin win in the third to take the championship.
In the championship match, Matt McPhee led A+/Fairlanes with 463 pins. Matt Harnett had 407 followed by John Harrietha with 391, Nate Leblanc’s 348 and Chris McGrady’s 331.
Crazy Train was paced by Dave Hodge’s 402 total. Shawn McKinley had 381 and Mark Strangio totaled 342.
A+/Fairlanes beat Lucky Strike of Massachusetts 1,887-1719 on Friday to move to the third round on Saturday where they narrowly defeated MacLaughlin T&T of Halifax by eight pins to advance to the championship.
Crazy Train defeated Kingswood of New Brunswick by just nine pins on Friday and toppled Total Chaos of New Hampshire in the next round on Saturday 1,839-1,705.
The tournament moves back to Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes in Brewer next year.
