BANGOR – Stephen Richard Bowers Jr., 24, died Nov. 15, 2009, of injuries he received in an automobile accident, Nov. 11. He was born Aug. 13, 1985, in San Antonio, Texas. He was the son of Stephen R. Bowers Sr. and Nanon L. Lancaster. Stephen lived in many states, including Texas and Florida, and came to Maine in 2002. He was a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 2004. He was a dean’s list student at Northern Maine Community College, where he earned a certificate in welding and metal fabrication in May 2008. At the time of his death he was a student at Eastern Maine Community College with plans to eventually enter an engineering program at the University of Maine. Stephen had a strong love of life. He enjoyed camping, fishing on the Penobscot and spending time with his friends. He was a good son, brother and friend. His companionship, helping hands and ready smile will be sorely missed. Upon his death, Stephen was honored to donate his organs through the New England Organ Bank. Today there are three families in New England who are celebrating renewed life due to Stephen’s generosity. His family is very proud of his gift. Surviving Stephen are his mother and stepfather, Nanon L. and Wayne R. Foote of Bangor; his sister and her husband and daughter, Jennifer Bowers and Adam, and Jasmine Mitchell of Veazie; stepsisters, Elizabeth A. Foote of Bangor and Leigh S. Lauck and her husband, Matthew Lauck, of Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico; father and stepmother, Stephen R. Bowers Sr. and Sheila Bowers of Enon, Ohio; maternal grandparents, Lee and Frances Lancaster of Fort Myers, Fla.; numerous and loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Stephen’s family deeply thanks the intensive care unit staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center for their compassionate care of Stephen and our family. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, for memories of Stephen, conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor. Friends and relatives are invited to call 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service in celebration of Stephen’s life will begin at noon.
