BANGOR – Claire (Howard) Meagher, 93, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 20, 1915, in Bangor, the daughter of Albert H. and Mary (Browe) Howard. Claire graduated from John Bapst High School, Class of 1933. She married Lawrence D. Meagher, Nov. 27, 1940. Claire worked doing photography and photo finishing for the family business, Pioneer Engraving Co., and later for Farrington Studio. Before retiring in 1980, she enjoyed many years working in the office at N.H. Bragg & Sons, Bangor. After retirement Claire volunteered extensively at John Bapst Memorial High School and proudly accepted the Crusader of the Year Award in 1983 for her efforts in compiling the first computer catalog of John Bapst alumni. She was an avid bridge player for more than 60 years and also loved spending summers at the family camp in Lucerne. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and wonderful cooking. Claire is survived by her son, Michael L. Meagher and his wife, Marvia, of Hampden; grandchildren, Deborah Lee of Liberty Hill, Texas, Jeffery M. Meagher of Wyman Township, Andrew S. Meagher of Riverside, Ill., and Kimberly Meagher of Hampden; two great-grandsons, Tucker and Lucas Lee of Liberty Hill, Texas; niece, Cathy LeClair of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and nephews, Steven Barton of Portland and Raymond Barton of Minoa, N.Y. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Lawrence D. Meagher; and sisters, Mildred Howard and Elizabeth Barton. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at St. Paul the Apostle, St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor. Interment will be after at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio Street, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the services at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
