PRESQUE ISLE – Dorothy M. Pelham, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, with her family at her bedside at a Mars Hill health care facility after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (McGinnis) Maynard. She was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, Class of 1942, and continued her education at Maine Aircraft School, Class of 1943, prior to working at Presque Isle Air Base. Dorothy also worked at Potato Service, Inc. until its closure and worked at Converse and Aroostook Shoe until her retirement. She loved spending time with family. Her favorite day of the week was Tuesday, when the family gathered at her home for her homemade spaghetti and meatballs. She will be remembered by those who loved her for her homemade doughnuts, quick wit, great sense of humor, love of laughter and her love of Saturday morning garage sales, which earned her the nickname “Garage Sale Gram.” May her arrival into heaven grant her the gift of memory and the ability to reminisce with all of her loved ones that have met her at the gate. She is survived by four children, Kathy Crawford and her husband, Mike, of Presque Isle, Randy Pelham and Debbie Jandreau of Crouseville, Karen Tompkins of Washburn and Brad Pelham and Alecia Page of Presque Isle; four granddaughters, Kelly and her husband, Norman “Tooter” Tuttle and their children, Travis, Christopher and Katie, Kerry and her husband, Steven Spooner and their children, Kelsie and Kerstee, Andrea and her husband, Aric Fogg and their children, Rowan, Neviana and Ely, and Amanda Tompkins and her daughter, Alanna; a brother, Garfield Maynard of Presque Isle; a sister, Mildred Mariano of Watertown, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Dorothy also leaves behind a special dog, Dolly; and her cat, Molly; and will be missed by special friend, Naomi Downing. She was predeceased by five brothers, Russell, Preston, Milford, Lawrence and Paul; two sisters, Margaret and Faye; as well as one grandson, Tommy Rice. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Johnson Cemetery.
