SKOWHEGAN – Sylvia J. Cyr, 73, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died Nov. 12, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 6, 1936, in Anson, daughter of Asa W. And Vera B. (Moore) Duley. Sylvia was a very active, outgoing, independent person who dearly loved her family and friends. She made friends easily and maintained friendships that lasted many years. When her children were young Sylvia was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader. She would go fishing right along with her children. She worked for a number of years as a home companion providing comfort and care to others. Sylvia enjoyed church, oil painting, cooking for others, bingo, music and her pet cat, Sophie. Her beautiful paintings grace some of our homes. Her thoughtfulness was often shown by the gifts and treats she would bring on her visits to loved ones. Sylvia enjoyed laughter and stories and loved spending time with her family at the family cottage at Wesserunsett Lake. There are so many ways that she will be missed. Her passing has left a void in our hearts. Sylvia is survived by her three children: daughter, Teri Ciarrocchi and husband, Paul, of Holden; sons, Fred Cyr and wife, Lisa, of Derry, N.H., and Rob Cyr and wife, Patty, of Raymond, N.H.; four siblings, Roberta Mayo of Anson, Gloria Sirois of Skowhegan, Richard Duley of Anson and Todd Duley of Anson; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Jillian, Jacob, Peter and Josiah; a significant other of 14 years, Bryant LaPlante of Cornville; special friends, Rell Kronberg, Mark and Judy, and Barbara and Edie; and many others to numerous to mention. We extend a special thank you to all the staff of the intensive care unit and Grant 5 at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, for all the care and support they provided us. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Dan & Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service, Adams Chapel, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan. Interment will be after at Athearn Cemetery, Route 43, Anson. At the request of the family, there are no visitation hours.
