GARLAND – Ann (Mackinnon) Kucera, 83, died Nov. 18, 2009, at her residence. She was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Toronto, a daughter of Flora Mackinnon. She attended Berkshire Community College, graduated from Mount Holyoke College, and received her master’s degree in English from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Ann was a longstanding member of Mensa Society, was an avid gardener, enjoyed animal husbandry and operated a working farm for a number of years. She was active in 4-H and Garland Grange, and belonged to a number of area literary groups. Ann owned several publishing houses throughout her life and authored several books including novels, essays and poetry. She spent countless hours volunteering with Garland Library and participated for many years with a number of harp singing groups traveling throughout the New England states. She is survived by two sons, David Ebitz and wife, Mary Ann Stankiewicz, of State College, Pa., and Thomas and wife, Regina Creeley, of Hudson; a daughter, Charlotte Creeley of Brockton, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Tristan and Thomas M. Creeley, Rebecca and Cecilia Ebitz. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter.
