A recent BDN story reported that Bangor city officials and the officials who manage area shelters are seeing a steep increase in the demand for emergency housing. Is homelessness worse than 10 years ago? Or does its “invisible” nature make it difficult to assess its
numbers? Should municipal governments and non-profits make it a top priority to create more bed capacity? Should private businesses help? Or are many homeless people the victims of bad choices regarding substance abuse and interpersonal relationships?
