JACKMAN – Edward Degerstrom, 76, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Maine General Medical Center-Thayer Unit, Waterville. He was born May 5, 1933, in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of Audrey and Gwen (Lemelin) Degerstrom. Edward had been a resident of Northland Living Center, Jackman, since 1973. He was an avid Red Sox baseball fan and Patriots football fan. He enjoyed music, visits to Pine Tree Camp, the Special Olympics and especially visits with his family. He was known to be a joker and enjoyed playing jokes on the staff at the center. Edward was also a very religious man. He is survived by an uncle, Clayton Degerstrom and his wife, Marta, of Massachusetts; a cousin, Patricia Andrei and her husband, Gilberto, of Brewer; several other cousins; and all his friends at Northland Living Center and Jackman Community. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Northland Living Center, Jackman. Interment will be at Bolton Hill Cemetery, Augusta. Donations may be made in his memory to Northland Living Center, care of Charlene Fournier, 382 Main St., Jackman, ME 04945. Cremation and service arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham.
