BAILEYVILLE, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating several car burglaries in the parking lot of the Domtar pulp mill that were discovered when the overnight shift let out Saturday morning and workers returned to their vehicles.
Taken in the spree were a 1997 Ford Taurus, several electronic gadgets and three guns.
According to State Police Sgt. Alden Bustard, Trooper Kimberly Sawyer is investigating the thefts, which mostly occurred from separate vehicles.
Bustard said the Taurus was recovered over the weekend in Stockton Springs and Trooper Jonah O’Roake collected evidence from the scene there.
Bustard said none of the other missing items were in the car or recovered. They include a semi-automatic Remington 12-gauge shotgun with a scope, a pump action Remington 270-caliber rifle, and a British Enfield bolt-action rifle and a seven-shot clip.
Also stolen were a Garmin Nuvi global positioning system and a Sirius Satellite radio receiver.
Bustard did not know if the vehicles were locked or not.
Bustard said Monday that there have been sporadic theft reports from the area in past months “but nothing like this string of thefts.”
He said the investigation is ongoing.
