BAR HARBOR – Esther C. Cowing, 85, died Nov. 27, 2009, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. She was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Simsbury, Conn., the daughter of Lewis W. and Mary (McGill) Case. Esther went to the University of Hartford Art School and she enjoyed art. She was an avid reader and assisted at fundraisers for Jesup Library, Bar Harbor. Esther was a member of the American Legion of Bar Harbor, Order of the Eastern Star in Connecticut and the Abigail Phelps Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution of Connecticut. She is survived by her sons, David Cowing of Bar Harbor and Christopher Cowing of Ellsworth; her brother, Westby Lewis Case and his wife, Dorothy, of Simsbury, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her husband, William R. Cowing; and by a son, George C. Cowing. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor, with the Rev.
