MAPLETON – Budd Brittain, 78, passed away Dec. 3, 2009, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Houlton, the son of C. Reginald and Ruth E. (Walters) Brittain. Budd grew up in Houlton and attended Ricker College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954, and was also a member of the American Legion Post and Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Hayward Frazier. Budd worked for many years at the Pinkham Mill as a foreman, but during his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and playing cribbage. He loved his family very much and served his wife, Shirley, coffee in bed every morning. He also used to play games with his children and spent time with his sons instructing them how to work on their vehicles. He especially enjoyed all his grandchildren. Budd also attended Mapleton Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (MacDonald) Brittain of Mapleton; two children: a daughter, Ruth and her husband, Bryon Fox, of Presque Isle and a son, Jeff and his wife, Lisa Brittain, of Brunswick; five grandchildren, Jodi and her husband, Jon Moore, Tom and his wife, Heidi Pond, Whitney and Nicholas Brittain, and Drue Ford; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Moore and Austin Pond; and a brother, Chalmers and his wife, Joan Brittain, of Yuma, Ariz. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews including Vicki Burtt and Budd Nicholson; as well as two special friends, Kurt Derrah and Matt Dick. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Greg Brittain; and a sister and brother-in-law, RuthEna and Owen Nicholson. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Dr. Ken Phelps officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service. A reception will be held after the service in the reception hall at the funeral home.
