VEAZIE and MILLINOCKET – Joy M. Dewley, 56, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Dec. 25, 1952, in Millinocket, the daughter of Chester W. and Harriett M. (Preble) Dewley. Joy grew up in Millinocket, attended Millinocket schools and graduated from Stearns High School, Class of 1971. Joy furthered her education at Bangor Community College and received an associate degree as a respiratory technician. She worked as a respiratory therapist at Eastern Maine Medical Center for more than 30 years before retiring earlier this year. Joy will be remembered as a very generous and selfless helper and caregiver. She loved spending time with her family and spending summer days at the family camp, where she enjoyed swimming, playing cribbage and card games. Joy looked forward to the wintertime so she could spend time reading, another of her hobbies. In addition to her mother, Harriett Dewley of Millinocket, Joy is survived by two sons, Eric Dewley of Veazie and Zachary Dewley of Hermon, currently serving overseas in the U.S. Marine Corps; a grandson, Dylan Dewley; two brothers, Terrence Dewley and Dirk Dewley and his wife, Tammy, all of Millinocket; two special nieces, Bobbi Jo Pound and Staci Michaud and her husband, David; two nephews, Tyler and Bradley Dewley; and a great-nephew, Emerson Michaud. Joy was predeceased by her father. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with the Rev. Lyn Bradley officiating.
