SHERMAN – Robert Ralph Lane, 79, died peacefully Dec. 4, 2009, while in his sleep at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Caribou. He lives eternally now with the love of his life, Donna (Hamilton) Lane. They were married for more than 57 years and will no longer be separated. He was born Dec. 9, 1929, in the town of Sherman, to Harold and Florence (Buzzell) Lane. He was their second child. He served in the Korean War from June 1951 to 1953, where he was a sergeant. He was a past member of Molunkus Fish and Game Club and was a member of American Legion Post No. 88. He was a quiet man with few words. He taught by his actions: working hard six days a week cutting pulp, respecting nature and the people around him. He looked forward each week to seeing the light of his life, Kylee Jo Plummer. She shared his lunch with him every Friday and always brought a smile to his face. We will remember him for this smile always and his patience and kindness to all. He, along with his wife, raised and is survived by five children, who loved and respected him and will miss him very much: Richard Lane and his wife, Gail, of Island Falls, Diane Deschesne and her husband, Bill, of Presque Isle, Charlene Springer and her husband, Rusty, of Sherman, Roberta Heath and her husband, Mike, and Heidi Morse and her husband, Ricky, all of Patten. He will also be missed dearly by his nine grandchildren, Ricky Lane, Tasha Chambers, Robert Deschesne, Billie-Jo McDonough, Mandy Willette, Derek Springer, Justin Willigar, Jessica Lane and Danielle Willigar; 15 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joyce, Gloria, Karen and Kendra; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine and Juanita; many nieces, nephews and cousins; a special caring friend, Ann Tulller; and Emelin Cole, a special person in his life. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Donna; stepmom, Mildred; and two brothers, Ken and Joel. We thank the nurses and staff of the Maine Veterans’ Home, Caribou, for providing a second home for our dad these past 23 months. He felt loved and cared for. Graveside services will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Maine Veterans’ Home, 163 Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME 04736. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
