MILBRIDGE – Gladys A. Suydam, 59, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital with her husband, Clarence, by her side. She was born Oct. 20, 1950, in Bangor, to Walter and Cleo (Pinkham) Newenham. She attended Cherryfield schools. She earned her General Education Diploma – GED and became a certified nurse’s aide in 1994. She worked at many different places, including Narraguagus Bay Healthcare Facility and various hotels in Bar Harbor and Cranberry Point, Gouldsboro. Gladys also was good at picking crabmeat and performing other various seasonal occupations such as wreath making and working in area blueberry factories. She enjoyed crafts especially plastic canvas, attending Beano, spending time with family and friends, and watching her husband race at Speedway 95, where they were married in 1997. She is survived by her husband, Clarence; sister, Doris Dorr of Milbridge; brother, Roger Burgess of Saco; special niece, Melissa Wright and husband, Bobby, of Columbia; stepdaughters, Mary Suydam of Bethlehem, Pa., Pam Berger and husband, Scott, of Lehighton, Pa., and Amy Suydam of Kunkletown, Pa.; stepson, Tim Suydam of New Ringgold, Pa.; and grandchildren, Bryanna and Logan Berger, Hali and Hanna Dennis, Mathew and Angelena Drisko. She was predeceased by her only son, Larry Pinkham, who was the light of her life; her parents, Walter and Cleo Newenham; grandmother, Alice Pinkham; infant brother, Lester Merrill Burgess; and her son’s father, Ivan Pinkham. A celebration of Gladys’ life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at her home. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
