CARMEL and INDIANAPOLIS – Susan A. Stanhope, R.N., 59, died unexpectedly Dec. 9, 2009, at her home. She was born May 9, 1950, in Bangor, the first child of Jack and Betty Stanhope. Susan attended Carmel School, Hermon High School, Class of 1968, and the University of Maine School of Nursing, Orono and Portland, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree. She worked in hospitals in Portland, New Orleans, Boston and Indiana, where she made her home more than 20 years ago. She is survived by her mother of Brewer; three sisters, Elaine DiCenso of Bangor, Barbara Thompson of Port Richey, Fla. and Rosemary Snow of Casco; six brothers, John of Hampden, James, Joel and Jeremy, all of Carmel, Jeffrey and Jay, both of Bangor; 14 nieces and nephews. Her church and hospital family in Indianapolis held a memorial service Sunday, Dec. 13. A family service will be held in Maine at a later date.
