A body recovered Friday from Cobscook Bay by a local scallop dragger has been identified by the U.S. Coast Guard as that of a Cutler man whose fishing boat sank in the bay in October.
Crew members of the fishing vessel Trident located Norman Johnson’s body while they were fishing Friday afternoon, the Coast Guard said.
A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Eastport brought Johnson’s body to shore, where it was met by a state coroner and the Maine Marine Patrol.
“We offer our deepest condolences to the Johnson family,” said Cmdr. Brian Downey of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England.
Johnson, 57, was one of three men on board the 34-foot sea urchin dragger Bottom Basher when it sank on Oct. 20.
Also aboard were Daryl Cline, 41, of Lubec, and Joseph Jones, 29, of Trescott, the boat’s owner.
Cline’s body was recovered early Oct. 21 off the coast of Eastport. Jones is still missing.
The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the Bottom Basher’s sinking.
