PERRY – Yvonne (Morrison) Newcomb, 88, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Calais Regional Hospital. Yvonne was born Feb. 18, 1921, at home in Robbinston, to Robert and Dolly (Beaney) Morrison. She attended the local Robbinston grade school and then went on to work in the area babysitting and house cleaning until she was old enough to begin working at the sardine factory. Yvonne married Elliot Newcomb in 1946 and moved to Perry, where they raised their family together. Yvonne owned and operated Little River Restaurant, Perry, from 1970 to 1976, and spent some time working in Eastport at the sardine factories and woolen mill, but spent most of her life as a wife and mother. Yvonne enjoyed doing word search puzzles and newspaper jumbles. Her home was always welcoming and friendly; she adored her grandchildren and was always willing to have them for a visit. Yvonne hosted all the holiday celebrations at her house as she was a great cook, always making homemade breads and cakes from scratch. Yvonne will be most remembered for her loving generosity. She was a member of Perry Congregational Church. In addition to her parents, Yvonne was predeceased by her husband, Elliot in 1984; a grandson, Eugene Newcomb Jr. in 1983; two sisters, Barbara and Madonna; two brothers, Francis and Thomas; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is survived by a daughter, Dolly Newcomb; two sons, Eugene Newcomb and his wife, Linda, Randy Newcomb and his wife, Trudy, all of Perry; three granddaughters, Tracy Gardner and her husband, Frank, of Edmunds, Amanda Tibbetts and her husband, Stephen, of Sammamish, Wash., and Vicki Jean Morrison and her fiance, Lucas Nadeau, of Bangor; two grandsons, Anthony Newcomb and his wife, Melissa, of Eastport and Stephen Morrison of Perry; a great-granddaughter, Kneviah Newcomb of Eastport; a great-grandson, Hayden Gardner of Edmunds; a great-great-grandson, Christian Nadeau of Bangor; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her special canine companion, Shadow. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Leland Cemetery, Perry, with the Rev. Ronald Windhorst officiating. All are welcome to join the family after the service at 280 South Meadow Road for a time of sharing and remembrance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Eugene O. Newcomb Jr. Scholarship Fund, care of Shead High School, 89 High St., Eastport, ME 04631. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.maysfuneralhome.com.
