HOULTON – Jean (Tracy) Brown passed away Dec. 24, 2009, at a local health care facility. She was born April 23, 1922, in Houlton, the daughter of Myrtle (McElwee) and Virgil C. Tracy. She was a graduate of Houlton High School, Class of 1940 and a member of Houlton Methodist Church. She was employed as a telephone operator for 23 years and retired when the Houlton office closed in 1970. Jean was a past noble grand of Portia Rebekah Lodge with a lifetime membership. Belonging to a crafts club more than 20 years, her interests were many in sewing, knitting and crocheting for her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn J Briggs and her husband, Vaughn, of Gorham, N.H.; three grandchildren, David Briggs and his wife, Jill, Kimberly Jean Bigeau and her husband, John, and Richard Briggs and his wife, Charlene, all of Gorham, N.H.; also six great-grandchildren, Alexsa, Kelsey, Brynna, Emma, Spencer and Madison; one great-great-granddaughter, Gwen; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Eugene E. Brown; one son, Rodney E. Brown, in 1946; and two brothers, Vonal C Tracy and Merle D. Tracy. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home where friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
