ANN ARBOR, Mich. – William Frederick Howatt died Dec. 24, 2009, at his home, after a battle of more than 2 1/2 years with pancreatic cancer. He was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Brewer, to F. Stanley and Amy Howatt. He received his early education in Veazie and graduated from Bangor High School in 1947. He graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1951 and Boston University School of Medicine in 1955. He interned in St. Paul, Minn., and completed a pediatric residency at the University of Michigan. He spent his career at the University of Michigan and Mott Hospital as a board certified pediatric pulmonologist. He retired in 1994 and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and traveling. Each summer he returned to Maine and often to the much-loved Prince Edward Island. In 1961 he married the former Joyce Kilmer, who predeceased him. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and William Mouradian of Brewer; his daughters, Maranne and Brian Green, Janet and John Jasker, and Sarah and Jerry Rahrig; son, Stanley and Karen Howatt; 14 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Services were held Dec. 30 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
