ADDISON – Raymond Ellsworth Ingersoll, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, after a long illness. He was born July 8, 1924, in Weymouth, Mass., the son of Winfred Clyde and Nellie Ruth (Nickerson) Ingersoll. Although he suffered from polio nearly all his life, Raymond worked hard from a very young age in a foundry and at Hingham Shipyard during World War II. He also worked as a carpenter, traveling salesman, clam digger and lobster fisherman. He enjoyed swimming, hunting and fishing, and time spent with family and friends, talking and joking. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Donald; and was brought up by his grandparents, Winfred J. and Edith R. Ingersoll in Addison. He is survived by his children, David Ingersoll and fiancee, Rise McKenney, of Addison, Beverly and husband, Timothy Stone, of Glenburn, Nancy Merritt, Patty Hartman, Richard Ingersoll and Joyce Smith and their spouses; grandchildren, Katrina and husband, Matthew Alley, Adam Crossman, Melissa Smith, Scott Merritt, Tracy and Tina Ingersoll, and Joshua Rand; great-granddaughter, Kaydence; greatgrandson, Kenton Alley, who much to his delight, was born on his 83rd birthday; his dear friend and the mother of his children, Jeannette Ingersoll; and many friends. His family is grateful for the loving care he received at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth, and Collier’s Rehab and Nursing Center, Ellsworth. A private memorial service will be held in the spring in the family plot in Addison.
