ORONO – Edwin “Breezy” F. Ambrose, 85, went to be with his wife and daughter, Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010. He was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Orono, the son of Richard and Olive (Ellis) Ambrose. Edwin graduated from Orono High School in 1942. He was a tremendous athlete lettering in four different sports. Edwin served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II, and was enlisted in the Guard for four years at Dow Air Force Base, Bangor, during the Korean War. Edwin retired from Old Town Paper Mill after 39 years of service. He enjoyed many hobbies, including, playing golf at Penobscot Valley Country Club, woodworking, fishing, gardening and bird watching. He always enjoyed his special day, Father’s Day, playing golf with his three sons. Edwin is survived by his sons, Richard Ambrose and his wife, Linda, of Glenburn, Michael Ambrose of Orono, and John Ambrose of Orono; brother, Carl Ambrose of Veazie; grandchildren, Richie, Rachel, Leah, Ben, Omekia, Brittany, Johnna and John II; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Wahl) Ambrose; daughter, Thresa (Ambrose) Bowen; and his brother, Franklin Ambrose. A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Orono.
