WINTERPORT – Sheila D. Rogers, 78, wife of the late John B. Rogers, died Jan. 13, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. She was born in 1931, in Lewiston, the daughter of William J. and Ann (Sherry) Donovan. Sheila was a 1949 graduate of Lewiston High School and a 1953 graduate of Farmington State Teacher’s College. In her early years, she was a runner-up in the 1952 Miss Maine Pageant. She had been a resident of Winterport since 1974 where she was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. She was an active member of Winterport Women’s Club and Rivertown Book Club for more than 25 years. She was also an active member in Winterport Historical Society and chairperson of Winterport Christmas Wreath project. She was a co-founder in 1968 of Katahdin School for Exceptional Children, East Millinocket and co-founder of Treats Falls House, Orono. Shelia retired in 1974 as an elementary school teacher in Medway and substituted at SAD 22 for many years after retirement. She also did a lot of volunteer work for United Way in the Bangor area and was a licensed real estate broker in the Hampden area for more than 10 years until her second retirement. Surviving are six children, Shaun E. Moll and her husband, Donald, of Franklin, Conn., John B. Rogers and his wife, Sandra, of Strong, Michael T. Rogers of Orono, James P. and Paul T. Rogers, both of Durham, and William J. Rogers and his wife, Angela, of Winterport; eight grandchildren, Kevin Moll, Erin Rogers, Patrick Rogers, Ted Neil and his wife, Heidi, Benjamin Rogers, Amanda Gustafson and her husband, Jon, Adam Hart, Andrew Hart and Sasha; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Carter Hart; and one sister, Colleen Curran and her husband, Frank, of Scarborough. She was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Ward and Sherry Donovan. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the spring at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Winterport, with a burial afterward at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport, all at a time to be announced.
