HANCOCK – Leola M. Wilbur, 86, died Jan. 17, 2010, at a Mount Desert Island hospital after a brief illness. She was born March 31, 1923, in Hancock, the daughter of Howard and Bernice (Page) Butler. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. Her family was the center of her life. Leola enjoyed flowers and playing bingo. Leola is survived by five sons, Reginald L. “Buster” Wilbur Jr., Dale H. Wilbur and wife, Denise, Timothy J. Wilbur and wife, Becky, all of Hancock, Charles A. Wilbur and wife, Lozina, of Ashville, and Dwinal E. Wilbur and wife, Sharon, of New Hartford, Conn.; five daughters, Betty A. Falkner and husband, Keith, of Terryville, Conn., Sharon L. Crowley and husband, Harvey, and Kim L. Sawyer and husband, Terry, all of Hancock, Gail M. Coombs and husband, Guy, of Sullivan, and Susan T. Higgins and husband, Tony, of Lamoine; a brother, Merle Butler of Milbridge; many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, Kaley; several nieces and nephews. Leola is also survived by her beloved black lab, Dante. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Reginald L. Wilbur Sr., in 1994; a daughter, Melinda B. Wilbur, in 1963; and a brother, Charles Butler, in 2004. Friends are invited to call 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, with Tom MacDonald officiating. Interment will be immediately after at Hillcrest Cemetery, Hancock.
