BANGOR – James “Francis” Michaud Sr., 83, wife of Elizabeth “Betty” Michaud, passed away Jan. 23, 2010, in Bangor. He was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Old Town, a son of Leo and Grace Edna (Clark) Michaud Sr. Until recently, Dad was an active communicant of the chapel at St. Joseph Hospital. He loved his family, which included his two cats, Jack and Susie. He really enjoyed people, telling stories and gardening. Dad had a big heart. He would often grow vegetables just to give them away to others. For years he donated much of his time to volunteering and helping others at the local soup kitchens and Meals for Me program. He retired from the P.C.F. paper mill in Old Town in 1983 after 32 years. He also served his country with pride in the U.S. Army and Air National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and 1985 respectively. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Michaud of Bangor; six children, James Jr. and wife, Donna, Wayne and wife, Melissa, Pamela and husband, Gary Dorr, Dale, Mary and husband, Ivan Fernandez, and Kevin; 12 grandchildren, Jimbo, Matt, Shawna, Wayne, Jarod, Ryan, Jody, Kim, Robin, Adam, Gregory and Corey; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edward “Vet” Michaud. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kristin Michaud; and five brothers, Leo Jr., Robert, Arthur, Clark and Martin Michaud. A very special thank you to the staff at Westgate Manor, Bangor, for all the loving care and support that they gave to Dad and our family during this difficult time. “Thank you” doesn’t hardly seem like enough, but please know that all your efforts are very much appreciated. At Dad’s request, there will be a graveside committal service with military honors in the spring at Forest Hill Cemetery, Old Town. Memorial contributions may be made in Dad’s memory to CancerCare of Maine, attention Healthcare Charities, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931. Arrangements are by Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
