BRIDGTON, Maine — Sled dogs are taking center stage this weekend at the annual Maine Lakes Mushers Bowl in western Maine.

The highlight of the two-day event in Bridgton is dog sled rides and races. But the festivities also include horse-drawn rides, an ice-fishing contest, snowmobiles rides, snow shoe hikes, food and even a polar plunge — where people jump into frigid Lake Highland — to raise for a local animal shelter.

The carnival kicked off Saturday morning and wraps up late Sunday afternoon with an awards ceremony and supper.

It is put on by the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce.
