BAR HARBOR and ELLSWORTH – Robert I. Carr, 92, died Jan. 24, 2010, at a Mount Desert Island health care facility. He was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Bar Harbor, the son of James Arthur and Charlotte (Leighton) Carr. Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of American Legion, Bar Harbor; Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, Bar Harbor; Bar Harbor Police Reserve; and a member of Odd Fellows. He was also a caretaker for the town office and Legion Hall, and a janitor for Blue Nose for a number of years. He is survived by his three daughters, Beverly Anderson and husband, Thomas, of Ellsworth, Mary Silk of Bar Harbor, and Barbara Downs and husband, Lance, of Brooks; a son, Robert Carr and wife, Patricia, of Milford; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, James W. Carr and wife, Nellie, of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Corinne T. (Buskee) Carr; and two siblings, Beverly and Madeline. A spring graveside service will be held at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor. Those who wish may make contributions in Robert’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
