First up, an important question from The Man on the Couch: Why doesn’t Ryan Seacrest end “American Idol” by saying “Seacrest, out,” anymore? And when did it stop? We never miss an episode, but were probably giving some sort of commentary (our polite way of arguing over which contestant has what it takes) when the historic moment took place. If you have the answer, you know where to find me.
Second on the agenda — Crystal Bowersox. Every week I seem to be changing my mind about who is going to walk away the winner. This time around, it’s Crystal by a long shot. She’s real, she’s got raw talent, and I’m pretty sure her subway performance days are over.
Now for the important stuff. I’m sure you’ve heard that “Dancing With the Stars” announced next season’s celebrity contestants, and as a favorite of my Nana’s, I always pay attention, even if I don’t always watch.
Like many who have blogged and commented on the list, I have one issue — Kate Gosselin. The TV mother of eight has enough going on in her life and has made enough money off her reality TV train wreck that it’s time to get off.
But I don’t have the same complaint as others. I don’t care anymore what she does with her time. Yes, she has a family she should be paying attention to, but lots of moms work, have successful careers and are wonderful parents. Often they’re better mothers because they’re showing their children what it’s like to have goals, dreams and a solid work ethic — something many are lacking these days.
I don’t care how Kate Gosselin spends her time as long as it’s not on my television. Can’t I enjoy watching NFL star Chad Ochocinco try to nail some fancy footwork, or stay glued to the screen in hopes that “The Bachelor’s” Jake Pevelka trips over his shoelace because he deserves it after picking Vienna, without having to deal with Gosselin drama?
But enough complaining. For those of you who Hulu (it’s just like TV, only online), Simon Fuller has created a new online-only reality show that I can’t wait to catch up on.
“If I Can Dream” follows five real-life wannabe stars as they chase their dreams in Hollywood of becoming actors, actresses, musicians and models. New episodes air every Tuesday, but since it’s online, you can catch it anytime. And be sure to check out their revealing video blogs.
