EAST MILLINOCKET – Mary Provenzano, 91, wife of James Provenzano, died Monday, March 8, 2010, with her family gathered by her side at her home. She was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Toronto, the daughter of Vincenzo and Maria (Natale) Iannello. When Mary was an infant, her father passed away from a sudden illness, so she returned to Italy with her mother. She came to the U.S. in 1936 to help her sister with raising her family in East Millinocket. While living in East Millinocket, she met the love of her life, James V. Provenzano. Mary moved to Pennsylvania and worked at a nylon factory, but she soon returned to East Millinocket and married “Jimmy,” and together they raised their family and shared 68 years of marriage. Mary loved to cook and no one ever left her house hungry. She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, East Millinocket. Mary also enjoyed working in her garden with her husband and always looked forward to and enjoyed family get-togethers. In addition to her husband, James V. “Jimmy” Provenzano of East Millinocket, Mary is survived by her daughter, Carol Thompson of East Millinocket; two granddaughters, Ann White and her husband, Mark, of West Enfield and Mary Hanson and her husband, Joel, of Enfield; five great-grandchildren, Sam Lyons, Stephanie Currie, Laycee White, Christopher Hanson and Rachel Hanson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Amato and Jenny Iannello. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at Lamson Funeral Home, 17 Western Ave., East Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket. Spring interment will be at East Millinocket Cemetery.
