LEWISTON, Maine — The Biddeford High School Tigers claimed their third state Class A hockey championship in four years, using late second-period goals 53 seconds apart from Brady Fleurent and Ethan Pratt to beat defending champ Waterville 3-0 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee Saturday night.
Matt Roy finished with 31 saves for 19-2-1 Biddeford while the Purple Panthers wound up 14-7-1.
It was the sixth time Waterville has been shut out this season.
Fleurent broke the scoreless deadlock with 2:42 left in the second period as he swept home a Craig Anton rebound during a goal-mouth scramble.
Derek Reny had swiped at the puck before Fleurent tucked it home.
Pratt made it 2-0 by beating Waterville goalie Ryan Cormier with a screened shot.
Trevor Fleurent added an insurance goal on the power play with 58 seconds left in regulation.
Cormier finished with 20 saves for Waterville.
